In 2020, when the world was at a standstill due to the COVID-19 virus, writer-musician Robin Aerts dreamed up sofa creatures, tiny creatures that lived hidden under sofas and couches. Eeltje is one such creature. She dreams of a journey to the light, but doesn't dare leave the safety of darkness.

To depict this minuscule, dark world, Vandekeybus immerses herself in the captivating imagery of microphotography. Eeltje's fear of failure stands in stark contrast to the colorful, vibrant illustrations.

 

The children's book was published by De Eenhoorn Publishers at the end of 2021.
